Connecting bank accounts

Link your bank accounts to Financica for automatic transaction syncing.

Connecting your bank accounts is the fastest way to get your financial data into Financica. Once connected, transactions sync automatically so you always have an up-to-date view of your finances.

How to connect a bank account

  1. Go to Data Sources > Bank Accounts in the sidebar.
  2. Click Connect bank account.
  3. You will be redirected to the bank connection provider (Exthand) to authorize access.
  4. Select your bank and log in with your banking credentials.
  5. Choose which accounts to link and confirm the connection.

After authorization, Financica will begin importing your transaction history. This may take a few minutes for the initial sync.

Supported providers

Financica connects to banks through Exthand, which covers most European banks. When you initiate a connection, Exthand handles the secure authorization flow with your bank.

What gets imported

For each connected account, Financica imports:

  • Transaction date and amount
  • Counterparty name and details
  • Transaction description and reference
  • Currency information

Transactions are imported in both directions — inflows (deposits, payments received) and outflows (expenses, transfers).

Managing connected accounts

From the bank accounts page, you can:

  • View sync status — See when the last sync occurred and whether it was successful.
  • Review sync logs — Check the audit trail for any sync errors or warnings.
  • Edit account details — Update the display name or other metadata.
  • Disconnect — Remove the bank connection. Existing imported transactions will remain in Financica.

Manual bank statement imports

If your bank is not supported by the automatic providers, or if you need to import historical data, you can upload bank statements manually. See Bank statement imports for details.

Troubleshooting

  • Connection expired — Bank authorizations typically expire after 90 days (PSD2 requirement). You will need to re-authorize through the bank connection flow.
  • Missing transactions — Syncs may take a few minutes. If transactions are still missing after an hour, check the sync logs for errors.
  • Duplicate transactions — Financica deduplicates transactions based on reference numbers and dates. If you see duplicates, contact support.
